One of 6,000,000,000: I.E., Face Reality

The need to feel special is ingrained in most people from Day 1. Parents make children the center of their world. Baby cries, parents react. Kid throws tantrum, parents react. Teenager rebels, parents react. If everytime I move someone notices, it is no wonder that I have a profoundly biased view of the universe.

Most of the unbelievably disturbing beliefs, convictions, and faiths (all of which fall under the heading of Opinions) can be traced to this "center of the world" phenomenon. The problem lies in the fact that since any one world view is not actually supported by the world (i.e., wants and desires go unfulfilled, others do not continue to react as parents did). This creates most of the conflict in (I say "with") the world. At all different levels (e.g. George W. Bush, Saddam Hussein, Osama bin Laden, employee going postal, fellow cutting you off in traffic) people are stuck trying to prove that their world view is, indeed, correct to themselves and everyone else. (If only everyone thought as I do…)

The reality is that you are one of many, many, many (can’t say it enough) people on this planet. You are not entitled to anything. You must learn for yourself the concept of self-reliance. And, if you decide that you want more for yourself than the nothing for which you are entitled, it is up to you to strive and then work toward whatever it is that you decide you need to fulfill yourself for this short time you have been allotted to live.

If you chose to remain closed minded, not entering the world of reality, be prepared for a jarring and unhappy existence. What a waste!
For those who chose to see themselves as one of 6 Billion inhabitants, I say, Welcome to Reality. Let’s see what you make of it!
